I woke up without the blues this mornin'
I woke up feeling fine
no issues with my finances
no trouble in my mind
I didn't have no busted love to bring me down
when I woke up without the blues this mornin'
woke up without the blues this mornin'
I jumped right out of bed
no achin' no heartbreakin'
no rain cloud over my head
I didn't read the sad, sad news about everything
when I woke up without the blues this mornin'
'cuz it's all just a state of mind
you can live in hell or up on cloud nine
the choice is up to me and you
me I fancy feelin' fine
i'll tell you what I choose to do
i'll keep wakin' up without the blues
said I woke up without the blues this mornin'
I had a fuzzy feelin'
the grass seemed greener
and even my dead end job was less unappealin'
I did a few kung fu kicks
like elvis would
then I made this song all about feelin' good
when I woke up without the blues this mornin'
woke up without the blues hey hey
woke up without the blues this mornin'

I Gotta Get Organized
04:12
|
|||
procrastination hassles me
confusion is my cup of tea
my vision's 20/20, but I can't see
my filin' cabinet's upside down
my picket fence is painted brown
when I take a bath, there's an off chance I might drown
I gotta get organized
gotta get my shit together, gotta do it now
I gotta get organized
I ain't got nothin' better to do anyhow
I gotta get organized
but if I never do I won't be surprised
my wife is four months overdue
my attack dog's name is cindy lou
my left foot don't quite fit in my left shoe
I stop at green lights, I go on red
when the sun comes up I go to bed
when I take ex-lax, it goes right to my head
I gotta get organized
gotta get my shit together, gotta do it now
I gotta get organized
I ain't got nothin' better to do anywhow
I gotta get organized
but if I never do I won't be surprised
my uni-cycle's got two wheels
I don't know how sensation feels
the sushi restaurant serves me cooked meals
my doctor tells me he's in pain
my shrink is legally insane
I get sunburned out in the pouring rain
I gotta get organized
gotta get my shit together, gotta do it now
I gotta get organized
I ain't got nothin' better to do anywhow
I gotta get organized
but if I never do I won't be surprised

well I wrecked my pickup truck
I was being negligent
they took me down to the station
and away my freedom went
I got charges and a fine
a police record to call mine
and what I coulda shoulda done's
pretty much irrelevant
what I coulda shoulda done
ain't worth a damn to me
a dollar short and a day too late
is all it'll ever be
and hindsight's like a broke tail light
that you're just too late to see
what I coulda shoulda done
ain't worth a damn to me
now i've done some stupid things
i'll be the first to say
i've always known the straighter path
but i've chose the ramblin' way
now i'm shelling out the price
ain't no use in thinking twice
'cuz what I coulda shoulda done
won't help me none today
what I coulda shoulda done
ain't worth a damn to me
a dollar short and a day too late
is all it'll ever be
and hindsight's like a broke tail light
that you're just too late to see
what I coulda shoulda done
ain't worth a damn to me
and hindsight's like a stale bite
of outdated clarity
what I coulda shoulda done
ain't worth a damn to me

Queen of the Red Lights
04:09
|
|||
Back in the times when the mines were mined
and the trains were chugging' through
Old Virginny was a bustlin' city
livin' high on the Comstock boom
There lived a woman named Julia
She did a dirty job to do
She died young, the hardest workin' girl
The wild west ever knew
Queen of the red lights
she loved 'em all for the right price
They'd come and go and come back to her again
In the high times on the Comstock Lode
She kept the miners minin' and the money flowed
But it never was the same after Julia got done in
she volunteered her days with the men
at the firehouse on C street
while the miners broke their backs below
in the stench and the sweltering heat
after sundown's when she made her name
lovin' those miners for pay
she'd send them off back to their hell
but they'd be whistlin' all the way
Queen of the red lights
she loved 'em all for the right price
They'd come and go and come back to her again
In the high times on the Comstock Lode
She kept the miners minin' and the money flowed
But it never was the same after Julia got done in
they found her in her shack that day
cold and stiff there on her bed
disfigured face, the bloody sheets
were sticking to her head
no silver, no gold ever came for free
she was only 35
a victim of the lust and greed
that was keeping her alive
Queen of the red lights
she loved 'em all for the right price
They'd come and go and come back to her again
In the high times on the Comstock Lode
She kept the miners minin' and the money flowed
But it never was the same after Julia got done in

God is My Pal
02:12
|
|||
I was trudging through the motions
all my days were tough and long
I was wondering what the hell this life was for
I was looking for a reason
good enough to carry on
and i'll be damned if I didn't find the lord (and I'm singin')
god is my pal
by and by now, god is my pal
and any dang thing he calls on me to do, I shall
by and by now 'cuz god's my pal
now I can't see him anywhere
but I feel him always near
and everywhere I go I just float across the ground
and the line between bullshit and truth
is suddenly so clear
and everywhere I turn joy does abound (and I'm singin')
god is my pal
by and by now, god is my pal
and any dang thing he calls on me to do, I shall
by and by now 'cuz god's my pal
now he don't mind if I take a toke
or I drink myself some beer
no he don't mind if I make love just for fun
and we laugh at how some folks
who claim to know him live in fear
hell, the two of us might just as well be one (and I'm singin')
god is my pal
by and by now, god is my pal
and any dang thing he calls on me to do, I shall
by and by now 'cuz god's my pal
by and by now 'cuz god's my pal

Believe
04:17
|
|||
life came on along and hit you in the eyes
my friend I know it ain't been easy
can't make no sense of it, don't make no sense to try
it's time to dig down deep and believe
lord I couldn't know what's been going through your mind
ain't no real way to relate
best I can do is share with you these thoughts of mine
we're all the owners of our fate
believe in the blue of a blue sky
believe in the grey of an evening rain
believe in the song of a newborn baby's cry
believe in the love to take away the pain
destiny is floatin' out among the stars
too far away to see from here
faith lies in the beat of your enduring heart
and faith don't have no place for fear
believe in the blue of a blue sky
believe in the grey of an evening rain
believe in the song of a newborn baby's cry
believe in the love to take away the pain
hold on to the ones you love so tight
love is gonna help you win the fight
and we'll be right here by your side, by your side
believing in this life, this precious life
believing in the blue of a blue sky
believing in the grey of an evening rain
believing in the song of a newborn baby's cry
believing in the love to take away the pain

Turn up Your Joy to 11
02:27
|
|||
if you're suffering pain and some sorrow
and you can't seem to find the right way
don't wait and see what comes tomorrow
tune out all your sadness today
turn up your joy to eleven
blast all your troubles away
you can turn hell into heaven
just turn up your joy all the way
Now maybe you caught your spouse cheatin'
Maybe you hate your damn job
if the song you can't stand keeps repeatin'
just crank up your attitude knob
turn up your joy to eleven
blast all your troubles away
you can turn hell into heaven
just turn up your joy all the way
so change the direction you're going
forget the sad things that have been
it's really no short of mind blowing
when you turn up your joy one past ten
turn up your joy to eleven
blast all your troubles away
you can turn hell into heaven
just turn up your joy all the way

Mug Shot Blues
03:28
|
|||
black and white stripes from my head down to my toes
I never thought i'd wind up sportin' these kind of clothes
my brain's achin', i'm saturated with beer and booze
locked up, run out of luck, I got the mug shot blues
I breezed into town and I played the red dog saloon
I drank and sang 'till I finally came out of tune
still the good times rolled 'till the next thing that I knew
locked up, run out of luck, I got the mug shot blues
I wasn't hurtin' anybody when they cuffed me up
now i'm eatin' raisin bran from a styrofoam cup
they pressed and pressed on me 'till I caved in
but honesty is like a hang man's rope
when it comes to storey county cops and dope
I told the truth, man I won't do that again
five a.m. And it's the jail house wake up call
blinding light, steel toilet on a concrete wall
I guess drunk and dumb don't come without their dues
locked up, run out of luck, I got the mug shot blues
black and white stripes now the jailer calls my name
bail's been paid, it's time to take my walk of shame
gonna get a newspaper and check up on what's new
maybe read dear abby and play the crossword too
with my bacon and eggs and my coffee spiked with booze
and i'll just as soon forget about the mug shot blues
'cuz I ain't got no more use from the mug shot blues
